The Royal British Legion Scotland Arbroath Branch Club. Scottish Charity No SC 030205
This is our first newsletter for this year, actually forcing myself to stop my weekly usual paperwork trail at the Branch Club to do some catch up on the website.
Firstly I must let you all know that after a hectic time last year with our Green Street project we had to spend more money than expected due to extra work found but as you can see on the Green St page it was worth it. Our garden project at Green St is coming along fine with all the work being done by our friends/students at Angus College, once complete it will be disabled access friendly and should be great in the summer months. We hope to get an outside drinks licence so we can open the place up for family Barbie's at weekends or just sitting in the sun.
January and February are now past and it has been a slow start to the year, this along with the UK recession does not help. Although we have been busy at times we are struggling along with the rest. The VAT going back to 17.5%, Brewery beer increases and any other increases what came along do not help either, we can only hope for better times ahead.
Back to March and what lies ahead, a good start so far especially the better weather and more light hours in the day, we have meetings for the Branch, Club, Woman's Section and our Committee's joint meeting, things we talk about are varied but is all to keep the Branch alive and active within the Community and the Club bringing in new ideas to keep our members coming back and to make sure we do not get stuck in a rut with the same old stuff over and over again.
Coach trips this year are totalling 4 at present with another one pending, hall bookings are going strong with the Woman's Section keeping busy as ever, well done to you for all the hard work. For the members who use our main hall, good news for you, the extractor fans should be fitted within the next few weeks to help keep you all cool when dancing the night away. Our Branch Chairman (Steve) had a DIY day on Saturday 5th March with a few of the Committee members cleaned and painted the Boardroom and the upper corridor, next week the office is getting extra plug sockets fitted before cleaning and painting takes place. A new upright freezer has been bought for the kitchen along with a Burco boiler for our Green St kitchen.
Just to finish off this year marks our 75th Anniversary so keep an eye open for our special events.
That's all for now
Mike
Club Chairman
