Welcome to the Woman's Section Page
Hello and thank you for visiting the Woman's Section of the Arbroath
Branch RBL Scotland.
Brief History of the Woman's Section
The Women's
section of the British Legion came into being in 1921 although its
official recognition was not granted until 1924, although its
members had been devotedly caring on their welfare work during the
First World War and after it. They had done so through the various
organisations mentioned earlier, and when these organisations became
merged in the British Legion in 1921, the women's section naturally
assumed the same title.
The Women's
Section continued to work as they had before but as a separate body
under their own rules and without reference to the constitution of
the British Legion, this situation caused misunderstanding and
confusion, and after meetings took place it was decided that any
organisation using the name 'British Legion' was not, and never
could be a separate organisation but must adhere to the Legion
constitution. The Ladies accepted this principal and the result was
the constitution and by-laws for the women's section of the British
Legion in England were examined and adopted by the women's section
in Scotland, so with that, official recognition followed
immediately.
To Be Continued
Branch Trustees
Depending on the individual charity and its legal form,
the charity trustees may be called board members, directors,
management committee members, trustees or whatever is relevant
to the charity. Whatever the terminology used by the charity,
for the purposes of the legislation, the group of people who
manage and control the charity are known as trustees,
Charity trustees must act in the interests of the charity.
Charity Trustees must do what is best for the charity.
Club Committee
The Club Committee run the club as the trading arm of the
Branch. It is in their best interests to make sure the Club is
in profit and does not make a loss. Those members on the Club
Committee are mostly un-trained in operating a Club
professionally but they do the best they can. Anyone can become
a member of the Club Ciommittee, we are always looking for new
younger members to join with new ideas to move us forwards into
the next century.
Pensions & Welfare Advisor
The Branch Pensions & Welfare advisor assists any ex-serviceman
or woman, whether a member or not, to pursue their possible
entitlement to a War Disablement Pension or help out the best
they can in their welfare.
The P & W Advisor can be contacted via the Branch. Please do not
put off getting in touch with the advisor, he can get things
moving very quickly and will save you a lot of problems later
on.
